Welcome from the General Chair

  • Welcome from the General Chair

The 2023 IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications (CCTA 2023) will be held Wednesday through Friday, August 16-18, 2023 at the Hilton Barbados in Bridgetown, Barbados. This is the 7th meeting in a series and is one of the main conferences sponsored by the IEEE Control Systems Society. CCTA replaces the successful former IEEE CCA and IEEE MSC conferences. The technical program will feature plenary sessions, contributed and invited papers, as well as workshops and tutorial sessions. The central topics will involve the application of control technology to solve problems than range from academic proof of concept to the deployed solutions addressing societal challenges. We will also plan to have opportunities for both experienced researchers as well as junior researchers and students to interact with and learn from one another.

CCTA 2023 promises to be an exciting event that combines technical interchanges with informal (and formal) networking opportunities in a wonderful setting. Barbados is an exceptionally appealing Caribbean destination and is one of, if not the, safest islands for tourist travel in the region. The venue we have chosen is on Needham’s Point meaning that the conference will have full run of the hotel, meeting space, and the ocean front properties on all three sides. It will be an excellent venue to absorb and disseminate the latest in control technology results with colleagues in large presentation settings. At the same time, the format and location will accommodate smaller exchanges and collaborations in many of the property’s facilities that can lead to breakthrough new ideas.

CCTA 2023 will be designed as an in-person conference. In addition to the technical sessions, the Tuesday before the conference will host several workshops on the general themes related to control technology. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to present their papers that were previously published in IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology. Presently, the operating committee is considering how lessons learned from the pandemic can be leveraged to improve the experience for all attendees. More details will be available when the registration opens.

The conference will take place within the Hilton Hotel which has ample conference space on site. Since Barbados is a small island, any of the attractions are easily within reach. There is a local dive shop located on the hotel grounds for those interested in water sports and the protected Carlisle Bay is practically on the premises. Transportation is readily available to experience local cultures such as the Mount Gay distillery for traditions in Caribbean rum making or Oistin’s Fish Market, a local cornucopia of street food. There are also myriad gourmet restaurants across the island that overlook the ocean; the perfect setting to recount what has been learned throughout the day at the conference. We look forward to enjoying the CCTA 2023 with you!
